It is my mission to bring about changes
in the way we construct, maintain, rehabilitate and
reconstruct flexible pavements throughout the world.
This can be achieved by the truth which we can get from
research, education and hands-on experience. So far I
have devoted 45 years to this cause and, with your
willingness and co-operation, we can produce pavements that
leave all present problems to the distant past. We
will indeed have pavements that will be
"everlasting" thereby eliminating most major
problems. Longitudinal, transverse and alligator
cracks, pothole formation, delamination and raveling will be
greatly mitigated so as to require only minimal funds to
repair these instead of billions of dollars. It is
estimated that 650 potholes open up every minute in North
American highways and streets or 341,640,000 per year.
The cost to repair these potholes would require
$51,264,000,000. It is also estimated that there are
88,070,400,000 feet of cracks in North American streets and
highways. To repair these would require
$28,182,528,000. If all potholes and cracks were
faithfully repaired, it would cost a total of
$79,428,528,000. This is an enormous sum. In
reality, much less is spent on an annual basis. If all
flexible pavements in North America were constructed using
the "Everlast Pavement System", only a few million
dollars would be required to maintain these pavements.
The present reality is that there just is not the money
available to adequately maintain, rehabilitate or
reconstruct our failed pavements. Cities, towns and
counties are near bankruptcy and in some cases they are
bankrupt. Even formally wealthy states, like
California, are forced to terminate 20,000 government jobs
and slashing the pay of 200,000 other employees (during
fiscal 2009). The current financial credit crunch
(2008) will make it extremely difficult to come up with
adequate funding. Even at the best of times, funds for
our crumbling infrastructure will not be sufficient. I
am willing and able to assist cities, towns, counties, state
and provincial governments through the Global Asphalt
Technology Education Service (GATES) and consulting service
to construct the "Everlast Pavements". Any
organization which will take advantage of my knowledge,
experience and services will realize better pavements and a
more knowledgeable staff. Both are a requirement for
the 21st century.
